They are grown in the dense tropical forests of Indonesia and given strict, close care to ensure that the plants are healthy and thriving. These plants take between four and six months before the buds come to maturity and every day along the way is vitally important. Our farm partner’s location in Indonesia is ideal for the growth of Clove as the volcanic soil that is ubiquitous throughout the island is rich in magnesium and potassium, leading to increased plant yield. Light weeding and inspection for harmful insects are also performed to keep the trees in top healthy conditions. Each Clove plant is tended for five years. |

Harvesting & Processing
The harvesting process is very delicate, and ideally takes place during Indonesia’s short dry season. Clove buds are ready for harvest when they change from green to slightly pink and the quality of the yield can be dramatically damaged if any of the branches are bent or broken.
Once the buds have been collected, however, they are brought to the processing facility, dried, and steam distilled to release the oils. The resulting liquid is then filtered before being bottled.
