Rose Geranium

Rose Geranium is an aromatic shrub commonly found in South African gardens and farms. Prized for its fragrant scent, it has been used for centuries in traditional medicine to treat a variety of health conditions such as anxiety, depression, stress relief, and it’s also helpful in skincare!

Rose Geranium Essential Oil is known to have antiseptic, astringent, and anti-inflammatory properties that can assist your body’s natural healing process and help ease the symptoms of skin conditions such as eczema.

Cultivation

Rose Geranium is cultivated from the leaves and stems of its flowering plants. KwaZulu takes cuttings from successfully established plants in the Spring and Summer and begin developing them in their greenhouse. This ensures a rotating cycle of fresh plants to replace older plants as they age out (Rose Geranium plants have a lifespan of 2 years before they become less manageable).

KwaZulu takes care of these plants by hand from start to finish and that quality is apparent in the high-purity of their Rose Geranium Essential Oil.

Harvesting & Processing

Successfully harvesting Rose Geranium requires careful attention to detail. The leaves and stems must be picked at the optimal time to ensure they contain the highest possible concentration of its essential oil. Once the plants have been harvested by hand, they are gathered together and dried, in preparation for distillation.

The essential oil is extracted through a process known as steam distillation, where the plant material is subjected to steam, extracting the oil from within. Once the oil is extracted, it gradually cools down, giving time for the oil to separate from the residual water. Any remaining detritus is filtered out, leaving it highly concentrated and potent. At this point, it’s ready for bottling and shipping to our facility in Wisconsin. And from there to you!
