More About Lavender

Lavender officinalis is perhaps the most well-known and most popular essential oil plant. From the Lamiaceae family of flowering shrubs, Lavender is highly aromatic, with a distinctive floral scent. It grows especially well in sandy, well-draining, and rocky soil and can flower multiple times over the course of a single season.

In addition to its lovely smell, it has several practical benefits as well, such as promoting rest and soothing head discomfort. It’s a great practical oil for helping yourself destress and even helps to soothe irritated skin.

How It’s Grown

The climate and soil in Bulgaria are just about the ideal environment to allow lavender plants to flourish. And Bulgarian Essential Oils oversees the entire process from start to finish. Lavender shrubs are planted as seedlings by machine, which is run by four people simultaneously and, throughout its 5-7 year lifespan, the plants will be closely monitored for diseases and pests and meticulously weeded to keep them growing and healthy.

Harvesting

Once it’s time to harvest the flowering tops of the Lavender plant, it’s time to roll out with a harvesting machine. This can be done multiple times in one Summer, as the Lavender plants will usually have several cycles of sprouting if consistently harvested.

With a distillery on site, it’s easy to transport the harvested material directly there. And once it arrives, the flowers are placed into containers so that the oils can be distilled from the plant via steam.
