Argan
|
The Argan tree is thorny, with a gnarled-looking trunk and wide-spreading crown. They can grow up to 10 meters tall and live up to 200 years. The tree grows small, broad fruits with a thick and bitter peel. Inside each of these fruits are the nuts that become Argan Oil.
Argan Oil is packed with essential fatty acids, antioxidants, vitamins E and A, as well as Omega 6 and 9. These nutrients make this oil an excellent option for keeping your skin healthy and hydrated, but it can also help treat acne, eczema, psoriasis, and even wrinkles. As a bonus, it won’t clog your pores, so you don’t have to worry about blackheads!

Cultivation
|
Argan trees are grown in semi-desert climates and thrive best in regions with moderate rainfall and sunny weather throughout the year. This is why they make their home in the Mediterranean country of Morocco, where EIR Oil’s Argan orchards reside. EIR Oils does not use any pesticides for their Argan trees, but allows them to grow completely in the wild.
Argan trees take 30 years to reach full maturity and are an important part of Morocco’s culture. UNESCO has even declared the area where they grow a protected biosphere in an effort to preserve them for future generations. These trees also provide shelter for many wild animals.

Harvesting & Processing
At harvest time, fruits are collected from the ground near the trees. This is normally done by women who slowly gather them and then carefully peel them open to get at the nut within. Once the nuts have been collected, they are brought back to the facility where they will crack them by hand in large groups as they share conversation. This is one of the few ways women in Morocco are able to bring in an income, and EIR Oils has six cooperatives that they work with for this task.
After they are cracked and cleaned, the nuts are sent to the machinery located in the facility to be cold-pressed. This is how the oil is released. No added heat means none of the benefits of the oil are compromised. The resulting oil is then filtered six times before being bottled. This results in an incredibly pure Argan Oil.
