✓Plant Description: Spikenard is a perennial, aromatic herb native to the Himalayan regions of Nepal, Bhutan, India, and China. It grows at high altitudes, typically between 3,000 to 5,000 meters and thrives in cool, mountainous climates. This plant grows up to 3 feet tall and has thick, spongy rhizomes with fine rootlets which is the prime source of the essential oil. Reddish or purple-hued upright and slender stems have soft textured, rosette-shaped leaves. Small, pink to pale purple, bell-shaped flowers appear in clusters. Spikenard grows in rocky alpine slopes, forest edges and steep, grassy meadows. The plant is considered endangered in some areas because of overharvesting and habitat loss. It recommended to source sustainably.
